Shalom School's Midweek Hebrew program begins in the third grade with the acquisition of language skills necessary to read and write Hebrew.  Once students have learned to decode the Hebrew alphabet, they proceed to learning simple prayers which form the basis of family celebrations and synagogue services.

In order to become fully conversant with the language and structure of the prayerbook, our students are taught prayer-based vocabulary as well as basic language skills, including verb conjugation, the concept of the shoresh, or language root which forms the core of Hebrew language construction and usage, as well as the use of compound words, and the key prefixes and suffixes found in the prayerbook.

To enrich our studies, our students also study the Parasha, or Torah portion of the week, and learn the elements of Torah and Haftarah cantillation beginning in the fifth grade, as preparation for formal Bar and Bat Mitzvah training, which normally commences toward the end of sixth or the beginning of seventh grade.

These are the Books used by mid-week Hebrew School, as well as the links to publisher's web pages.
